Overview

Girijananda Chowdhury University (GCU), Assam is a state private university in Guwahati, established by the Government of Assam under Act No. XLVII of 2022. It grew out of the established Girijananda Institute of Management and Technology (GIMT) and Girijananda Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (GIPS), which had been providing professional education in Assam for many years.

Admission Process

GCU currently lists Admissions Open for 2026–27 for its Guwahati and Tezpur campuses. Applications can be made online.

Step 1: Select Your Course

Choose the programme you want to join—UG, PG, Diploma or Ph.D. Eligibility depends on the specific course.

Step 2: Check Eligibility

Examples:

BA/BSc/BCom/BBA/BCA/BSW: Pass 10+2 from a recognized board.
B.Tech: 10+2 with the required subjects and generally 45% marks (40% for reserved categories), as per AICTE norms.
B.Pharm: 10+2 with PCB/PCM and generally 50% marks; 45% for SC/ST candidates.
PG programmes: Graduation from a recognized university, with programme-specific requirements.
Ph.D.: Admission is through the university's research admission process/RET as notified.
Step 3: Apply Online

Create an account on the GCU admission portal, complete the application form and submit the required information/documents. GCU's 2026–27 brochure states that applicants can apply online, or visit the Admission Cell at the Guwahati campus for information and the prospectus.

Step 4: Entrance/Merit-Based Selection

The selection method depends on the programme. GCU's published admission information indicates that different programmes may use GCUCAT, JEE Main, Assam CEE, or other applicable national/state-level examinations.

For Ph.D., GCU conducts the GCU-RET (Research Entrance Test) as notified.

Step 5: Document Verification

After selection, candidates complete document verification and admission formalities. Keep the following commonly required documents ready:

10th marksheet/certificate
12th marksheet/certificate
Graduation marksheets/certificate for PG
Passport-size photographs
Aadhaar/valid ID
Category certificate, if applicable

Step 6: Pay Admission Fees

After successful verification, pay the applicable admission/registration and academic fees to confirm your seat.
